Minnesota State University/Yarmouk University
Irbid, Jordan
Intensive Summer Program at the University of Chicago
20 May– 01 July 2010
Our program is based at Yarmouk University, Irbid, Jordan. All language levels as well as proficiency skills are offered. Instruction is 4-5 hours/daily, five days per week. Courses are taught by Yarmouk University, AFL-trained professors. The program incorporates an innovative strategy of "local-guest" student partnerships that are valuable for cementing in-class instruction through practice and homework assistance, not to mention cultural immersion and lasting friendships. Students will earn 8 semester credits. FLAS recipients will be accommodated with respect to the minimum number of contact hours required and will earn 9 semester credits (an additional fee will apply). The program will include visits to prominent cultural and archaeological sites, including Petra, Umm Qais, Jerash, Ajloun, Baptism Site, and the Dead Sea. The program’s ideal timing might especially appeal to students who wish to use the balance of the summer to do independent research in Jordan or appreciate returning home early to do work or summer study.
Program cost is $4,149 (covers 8 cr. tuition, double-occupancy housing, NY-Amman r/t airline tickets, text, and excursions). To learn more and apply, visit our website: www.arabicABCabroad.com. Contact Dr. Abdalla Battah (abattah@arabicABCabroad.com) for any questions about the program.
