(Ad-Hoc Committee)
This committee is dedicated to addressing the particular needs of Middle East studies faculty and programs at smaller colleges and universities, defined as those in the Carnegie Foundation classifications of Associates Colleges, Baccalaureate Colleges and Master’s Colleges and Universities (but excluding Masters Universities that offer a Masters degree in Middle East studies). The committee will focus on issues of curriculum development, teaching and learning in Middle East Studies, and the development of Middle East Studies programs. Possible topics for the committee to address include:
- starting a Middle East Studies program at smaller universities
- the challenges of limited financial and personnel resources
- grants and other sources of external support
- assessment strategies for Middle East Studies programs
- Middle East language training opportunities for students
- study abroad programs in the Middle East
- strategies for gaining support on campus for Middle East Studies
- connecting Middle East Studies with global studies programs
- applying lessons from Research I Middle East Centers to smaller universities
- syllabi sharing and curriculum development
