This purpose of this special session is to inform and familiarize the academic audience at MESA about the AMEEL project. We will explain our work to date, covering topics such as selection, copyright, and the technical challenges related to Optical Character Recognition (OCR) conversion of Arabic text. We will give a demonstration of search and retrieval from the full text digital repository, which holds digitized journals from the Middle East. We will present the project’s vision statement to the audience and discuss the sustainability plans to form a consortium of interested stakeholders and partners. We hope to engage the audience in a dialog about the project and its future, guided by a set of questions on the interests of Middle Eastern scholars.
